Our Story
John Dawson spent his career as a mechanical engineer in aerospace. When his father was diagnosed with ALS, he watched him struggle with a wheelchair that weighed 80 pounds, squeaked on every turn, and made a trip to the grocery store feel like a logistical operation.
So John did what an engineer does: he built something better. The first Dawson chair was fabricated in his garage in Sacramento โ aircraft-grade aluminum, a brushless motor salvaged from a drone project, and a seat molded to his father's exact measurements. It weighed half as much and ran nearly silent.
Today, our team has grown from one engineer to thirty โ but every chair is still built with the same question in mind: Would I put my own parent in this? If the answer isn't an immediate yes, we start over.
